Dolní Jílovky is a lake of about 4.4 ha in Pardubice Region, in east Bohemia. To fish it you need a Czech state fishing licence (rybářský lístek) from the municipal office and a permit (povolenka) for the water from the Czech Anglers Union (ČRS) in Bohemia or the Moravian Anglers Union (MRS) in Moravia; visitors can buy a 30-day tourist licence that skips the written test. Daily fishing hours are set per revír in the ČRS/MRS rybářský řád; on non-trout water night fishing is routine, while trout stretches are daylight-only with a winter close. Whether you can bivvy overnight is not settled in Czech law — check local rules and signage.
Night fishing: Czech law sets daily fishing hours per revír, per year, published in that revír's entry in the ČRS or MRS rybářský řád — there is no single national night rule. On non-trout (mimopstruhový) waters fishing through the night is routine: you record a new date and revír number in your catch log at midnight. Trout (pstruhový) waters are daylight-only and have a winter closed season. Check this revír's řád before fishing after dark.
Boats: Boats are allowed on many revíry, including for baiting from a boat, but rules vary: some ban launching off the dam, some ban echo sounders, some restrict boats to members. Check the revír's entry in the rybářský řád.
Camping: Unsettled in Czech law. ČRS (July 2026) states there is no universal rule on bivvying or staying overnight at the water: once you stop actively fishing, fishing law no longer covers your presence and it comes down to the landowner and any local ordinance. A brolly or shelter used while actively fishing is generally accepted; a full camp is not. ČRS advises checking local rules and signage and using official campsites where possible.
Season: Non-trout (mimopstruhový) water: pike, pikeperch, perch, wels catfish and asp are protected 1 January – 15 June. Carp has no general closed season here, though some revíry protect it — check the local řád. Individual size and bag limits apply.

There is no ferry to Czechia. Most UK anglers fly to Prague, Brno or Ostrava and hire a car, or drive across Europe — roughly 978 miles from Calais (14-17 hours) via Belgium and Germany.

Czechia has a continental climate. On the reservoirs and ponds — Nové Mlýny, Rozkoš, Lipno, Orlík, Slapy, the Třeboň ponds — spring and early summer fish well for carp, tench and bream once the water warms. Predatory species (pike, pikeperch, perch, wels catfish, asp) are closed 1 January to 15 June on non-trout water, so the predator season really opens on 16 June and runs strong through autumn.
Carp has no general closed season on non-trout water, though some revíry protect it — check the local řád. Trout streams open around 16 April and close at the start of December. Many Třeboň fishery ponds are drained and harvested in autumn, so check before travelling.
