Estany de Liat, Ariège
This 27-hectare high-altitude reservoir in the Pyrenees is a scenic bank-fishing destination for trout, pike and perch rather than carp — worth noting if you're targeting predators instead. Night fishing isn't permitted due to its mountain location, and boats are banned, so expect a peaceful, intimate setting for daytime sessions. You'll need an Ariège AAPPMA permit (contact FDAAPPMA 09) and should factor in the 565-mile journey from Calais if planning a dedicated trip.
Night fishing at Estany de Liat is not permitted. Night carp not authorised on this lake. In Ariège, night carp (no-kill mandatory) is only permitted on: Lac de Montbel (entire lake), Plan d'eau de Mondély, Plan d'eau de Labarre (Foix), l'Hers at Mazères (river), Saint-Ybars.
