Étang Bleu, Pyrénées-Orientales
This intimate 4.3-hectare natural lake in the foothills of the Pyrenees is a peaceful bank-fishing destination, though note it holds pike, perch and tench rather than carp — better suited to mixed coarse anglers than dedicated carp hunters. No night fishing is permitted and you're limited to 8 fish daily, making it more of a quality day-session venue. Essential: Contact FDAAPPMA 66 (Fédération Pêche Pyrénées-Orientales) for a day ticket and to confirm current access, as this remote southern location is 570 miles from Calais and rarely features in UK trip planning.
Night fishing at Étang Bleu is not permitted. Night carp is only permitted on specific named venues in Pyrénées-Orientales (Barrage Agly, Raho, Vinça, Escoumes, Rivesaltes, Villelongue). This lake is not on the list — night fishing prohibited. Anglers must leave the bank before dark.
Bivouac & overnight camping is permitted at Étang Bleu under standard French fishing law — one rod, within 10m of the water, no open fires.
