This intimate 13.7-hectare reservoir in Ain holds carp, pike, perch and tench in a peaceful setting ideal for focused sessions away from busier waters. Night fishing is permitted when the on-site camping opens, giving flexibility for longer trips, though boats aren't allowed so you'll be fishing from the bank. Around 372 miles from Calais, it's well worth the drive for anglers seeking a quieter venue with solid resident stock.
Practical note: You'll need a French fishing licence and AAPPMA card (obtainable locally through FD 01); confirm camping and night-fishing dates before planning your trip.
Night fishing at Étang Cormorand is not permitted. Night carp not authorised on this lake. Source: federation-peche-ain.com/parcours-carpes-de-nuit/ Anglers must leave the bank before dark.
Boat fishing: Boat access is restricted at Étang Cormorand. Fishing from a boat (barque) and from a float tube are explicitly prohibited on the lake. Fishing must be practised uniquement de la berge (from the bank only). Only bankside biwy/tarp shelters are permitted lakeside. No motor rules applicable as all watercraft are banned. Site access by vehicle for anglers: annual vehicle pass available (abonnement entrée véhicule tourisme et pêcheur: 46 €; pass creation fee: 4.50 €).
Bivouac & overnight camping is permitted in designated areas only at Étang Cormorand. Bivouac (overnight bankside fishing) is permitted exclusively within the framework of the campsite's night-fishing forfait (1 May–30 September). Lakeside, only biwy-style tents (toiles de tentes/biwy) are authorised — no full camping setup outside designated camping pitches. The site is an enclosed, managed base de loisirs (not open countryside), so the standard French bivouac law does not apply freely; access and overnight stays are subject to the campsite's own règlement intérieur and require prior inscription at reception. Confirm with the local AAPPMA.
Required permits & cards: 1) Standard French freshwater fishing licence (permis de pêche fédéral) is mandatory — carte réciprocitaire départementale (FD 01 / AAPPMA Grièges–Pont-de-Veyle) accepted; day cards also sold at the tabac in Grièges village. 2) Night-fishing forfait: paid separately to the campsite reception (tariff listed as 14.60–18.40 € per night per person + car, per third-party sources for 2024/2025; confirm current rate at accueil). 3) Site entry: free outside the paid-access season; paid access applies from approximately 15 May to 31 August (exact dates may vary by year). 4) Annual vehicle/angler pass: 46 € + 4.50 € pass creation fee for season access.
