L'Estagnol is a compact high-altitude mountain lake in Ariège offering intimate bank fishing for trout, pike and perch in stunning Pyrenean scenery – though it's worth noting this isn't a traditional carp venue. Day fishing only, no boats, and the remote location (574 miles from Calais) makes it a specialist trip rather than a quick weekend break. You'll need an AAPPMA permit from Fédération Ariège Pêche, and the altitude means seasons and conditions can be unpredictable – check locally before travelling.
Night fishing at l'Estagnol is not permitted. Night carp not authorised on this lake. In Ariège, night carp (no-kill mandatory) is only permitted on: Lac de Montbel (entire lake), Plan d'eau de Mondély, Plan d'eau de Labarre (Foix), l'Hers at Mazères (river), Saint-Ybars.
