Lac de Gaube is a stunning high-altitude mountain reservoir in the Pyrenees, best suited to trout and pike rather than carp—ideal if you're after a scenic break from lowland carp fishing. At 18.7 hectares with bank fishing only, it's intimate and peaceful, though the remote location (569 miles from Calais) means serious travel commitment. Night fishing is not permitted due to the alpine setting, and you'll need a valid French fishing licence plus membership with Fédération Pêche Hautes-Pyrénées (FDAAPPMA 65) to fish legally.
