About Fishing at Lac de Lacanau

Lac de Lacanau is a vast natural lake in south-west France offering exceptional variety for UK carp anglers — catfish and pike share the water alongside healthy carp populations across nearly 2,000 hectares of scenic woodland lake. Night fishing is permitted in designated zones, and the lake welcomes powered boats, making it ideal for exploring different swims across this sprawling venue. You'll need a French fishing licence and AAPPMA card from Gaule Canaulaise; note this is a significant drive from the Channel (436 miles), so best combined with other regional venues.

At 436 miles from Calais, Lac de Lacanau requires a longer journey from the UK, but Nouvelle-Aquitaine — a vast region stretching from the Dordogne to the Basque Country, with outstanding fishing across its many departments — rewards the trip.
