Fishing at Lac du Pêcher

About Fishing at Lac du Pêcher

Lac du Pêcher is a compact 20-hectare reservoir in the Massif Central offering solid carp and catfish fishing from the bank in a peaceful Auvergne setting, roughly 400 miles south of Calais. Day-fishing only due to its ecological designation means you'll need to plan sessions around daylight hours, though the mixed species roster (pike, tench, bream) keeps things interesting. You'll need to join the local AAPPMA d'Allanche et Murat and respect the no-boats policy when planning your approach.

At 401 miles from Calais, Lac du Pêcher requires a longer journey from the UK, but Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes — one of France's most varied fishing regions, with venues ranging from Alpine lakes to lowland reservoirs — rewards the trip.

Fishing Rules & Regulations — Lac du Pêcher

Night fishing at Lac du Pêcher is not permitted. Night carp not authorised on this lake. Cantal's mountain/river waters are predominantly 1st category. Source: auvergne-peche.fr Anglers must leave the bank before dark.

Boat fishing: Boat access is restricted at Lac du Pêcher. Navigation (canotage) is explicitly prohibited. Multiple sources confirm 'Pas de canotage' (Auvergne Destination, cantal-peche.com AAPPMA page). Wikipedia additionally states the lake is 'strictement interdit à la baignade et à la navigation' as an ENS classified site. No boat permits exist; bank fishing only. A dedicated handipêche pontoon is provided for wheelchair users.

Bivouac & overnight camping is not permitted at Lac du Pêcher. Camping and bivouac are strictly prohibited at Lac du Pêcher. Wikipedia explicitly states: 'le camping comme le bivouac sont strictement interdits dans le secteur du lac du Pêcher, espace naturel sensible et zone protégée au sein du Parc naturel régional des volcans d'Auvergne.' This overrides the generic French bivouac law. The only accommodation option is the nearby Écolodge du Lac du Pêcher (converted bergerie, on-site hotel/restaurant/spa).

Required permits & cards: Standard departmental fishing licence (carte de pêche fédérale / réciprocité nationale) required. No additional day-permit or surcharge documented for this lake beyond the standard licence. Carte découverte -12 ans available at 6 €. A fishing reserve (réserve de pêche) covers the entire upstream part of the lake (marked by signs on-site) — fishing is prohibited in that zone entirely regardless of licence held. Partial zone access only: one open fishing sector and one closed sector to protect nesting and migratory birds.

Managed by AAPPMA d'Allanche et Murat. Always verify current rules with the AAPPMA before your session — regulations can change seasonally.
