Lac Noir, Savoie
Lac Noir is a compact, high-altitude mountain lake offering a refreshing change of pace for UK anglers – crystal-clear waters holding brown trout, rainbow trout, pike and perch in intimate surroundings. Day fishing only (no night sessions), bank-only access, and a 426-mile journey from Calais mean this is best suited to dedicated trout or pike hunters rather than carp anglers, though the pristine setting and pike potential may appeal to versatile travellers. You'll need a day ticket from FD 73 (Savoie fishing federation) and can fish most of the shoreline without crowds.
Night fishing at Lac Noir is not permitted. Night carp not authorised on this lake. Savoie has only 4 designated night carp sites (Plans d'eau du Sauget, Reculfort, Lac d'Aiguebelette, Plan d'eau de Grésy-sur-Isère), all on advance reservation. All other Savoie waters: night fishing prohibited. Source: savoiepeche.com Guide 2026 Anglers must leave the bank before dark.
Bivouac & overnight camping is permitted at Lac Noir under standard French fishing law — one rod, within 10m of the water, no open fires.
