Plan d'Aval, Savoie
This compact alpine reservoir in the heart of the Maurienne Valley offers excellent bank fishing for pike and perch, though it's classified as a first category trout water so night fishing isn't permitted. At 17.6 hectares, it's intimate and manageable, making it ideal if you're exploring beyond traditional carp venues in the region—roughly 450 miles from Calais. You'll need to join the local AAPPMA (La Gaule Mauriennaise in Modane) and obtain a French fishing licence before wetting a line.
Night fishing at Plan d'Aval is not permitted. Night carp not authorised on this lake. Savoie has only 4 designated night carp sites (Plans d'eau du Sauget, Reculfort, Lac d'Aiguebelette, Plan d'eau de Grésy-sur-Isère), all on advance reservation.
