About Greater Poland

Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) surrounds Poznań — Poland's fifth largest city — and covers the agricultural heartland of western Poland, drained by the Warta river and its tributaries. The Warta is Greater Poland's principal fishery, a broad meandering river holding catfish, asp, carp, bream and zander on long public banks accessible across the voivodeship. The Noteć canal system in the north connects to the Bydgoszcz waterway and holds bream, pike and zander.

The Wielkopolski National Park near Poznań contains a chain of glacial moraine lakes — Góreckie, Budzyńskie and Kociołek — offering pike, perch and bream in a forested setting within city reach. Poznań Ławica airport has direct UK flights and is one of the most convenient Polish airports for UK visiting anglers — Berlin is 3 hours by motorway. The region is approximately 14 hours from the Channel Tunnel.

Key species include catfish, asp, carp, bream, zander, pike, perch, tench.
