About Silesia

Silesia (Śląskie) is Poland's most industrialised region, but the River Wisła (Vistula) rises in the Silesian Beskid mountains here and immediately becomes a productive trout and grayling river before descending north through the industrial Katowicka conurbation. The Soła, Skawa and Raba rivers drain the Beskids west of the Tatras, holding trout and grayling in their mountain sections and barbel, chub and asp as they reach the Wisła plain. The Czorsztyn and Dobczyckie reservoirs add stillwater options.

The Vistula through Kraków (technically Lesser Poland, just east of Silesia) and the sub-Tatra rivers are within day-trip range. Katowice-Pyrzowice airport serves the region with direct UK budget flights. The Silesian mountains make a dramatic backdrop for fishing — the contrast between the industrial cities and the pristine Beskid rivers is striking. Katowice is approximately 16 hours from the Channel Tunnel.

Key species include trout, grayling, barbel, chub, asp, carp, pike, perch.
