Subcarpathia (Podkarpackie) is Poland's south-eastern voivodeship, pressed against the Slovak and Ukrainian borders by the Bieszczady and Beskid Niski ranges. This is mountain fishing country at its finest — the San river, rising in the Bieszczady National Park, flows north through a series of gorges and valleys holding wild brown trout, grayling and huchen before widening into the productive coarse fishery of the Subcarpathian plain. The Wisłok, Wisłoka and Ropa rivers add further Beskid trout and grayling options.
The Solina reservoir (22 km², Poland's largest man-made lake) in the Bieszczady holds pike, perch and trout, and is one of the most scenic fishing destinations in Poland. San valley permits are issued by PZW Rzeszów and Krosno districts — some stretches are fly-only. Rzeszów-Jasionka airport has direct UK flights. The Bieszczady mountains are approximately 20 hours from the Channel Tunnel.
