About Warmia-Masuria

Warmia-Masuria (Warmińsko-Mazurskie) — the Land of a Thousand Lakes — is Poland's most celebrated fishing destination and one of the great lake districts of Europe. Śniardwy lake (114 km²) is Poland's largest, and together with Mamry (104 km²) and the interconnected chains of Niegocin, Tałty and Ryńskie they form the Mazurian Lakes — 200+ km of navigable waterway holding pike, perch, zander, bream, tench and carp in clear glacial water. The region has more than 2,000 named lakes.

The Krutynia river — a classic Polish kayak route — winds through the Pisz Forest lake system and holds pike, perch and bream in its dark, tea-coloured water. The Łyna and Pisa rivers hold trout and grayling in their upper sections. Olsztyn-Mazury airport has summer connections to UK destinations. Most visitors drive via the Berlin-Gdańsk-Olsztyn route — approximately 16 hours from the Channel Tunnel. Early season (May-June) and autumn (September-October) produce the best fishing.

Key species include pike, perch, zander, bream, tench, carp, trout, grayling.
