Anyone 16 or older needs a State of Hawai'i freshwater game fishing licence — the resident annual is about $6, the non-resident annual about $26, with a 30-day tourist licence (~$11) and a 7-day tourist licence (~$6). Seniors 65 and older and anglers under 16 fish freshwater free. Buy online from the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources. There is no park entrance fee at the Public Fishing Areas. A State of Hawai'i freshwater game fishing licence covers this water — it is a DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources Public Fishing Area. (Nuuanu Reservoir No. 4 also needs a Honolulu Board of Water Supply permit.)

These are DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources Public Fishing Areas, open to anyone with a State of Hawai’i freshwater game fishing licence. Nuuanu Reservoir No. 4 also needs a Honolulu Board of Water Supply permit; Koke’e is open only in season, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The only trout water in Hawaii is Puu Lua Reservoir at Koke’e (7 rainbow trout per day, in season, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Reservoir species — peacock and largemouth bass, catfish, tilapia — follow Division of Aquatic Resources rules, and snakehead must not be released alive; always check the current DAR freshwater regulations
