Mud Creek is a public river in Newberry County, South Carolina, managed by State of South Carolina (public / navigable water). You can fish it on an South Carolina licence, but bank access is only at road crossings, parks, SCDNR access sites and other public land; riparian owners control the bank on non-navigable reaches. Public access confirmed via public-trust river.

An Upstate (Oconee / Pickens / Greenville) mountain trout stream — wild and stocked rainbow and brown trout, with native brook trout in the headwaters of the Chattooga, Chauga and Eastatoe systems. The freshwater licence covers trout; a Wildlife Management Area permit is needed on the WMA reaches.

Night fishing: No statewide night-fishing closure in South Carolina. Trotlines, jugs and set hooks are legal on most fresh water with a licence and gear tags. A few state lakes and reservoirs have posted hours; the Lower Saluda trout water and some WMA lakes close at night.

Boats: Most South Carolina rivers are waded or floated by canoe, kayak and jon boat; the Santee, Congaree, Wateree, Pee Dee, lower Savannah and the tidal Cooper take bigger craft.

Bank & bivvy camping: South Carolina navigable-water rule: you may fish and float any navigable stream on a SC licence; bank access is at SCDNR and county ramps, WMA landings, bridges, state parks and the blackwater sandbar-camping trails. WMA river reaches also need a WMA permit.
