Night fishing: Most Washington lakes are open to fishing 24 hours a day unless posted; rivers and streams open and close by season and area, and salmon and steelhead fisheries have set hours. Check the current Washington Sport Fishing Rules for the specific water.
Boats: The Columbia reservoirs and the larger lowland lakes take trailered boats via a WDFW, state-park or county ramp (Discover Pass required at WDFW and state sites); the alpine lakes are hike-in and car-top only. Out-of-state boats need a Washington Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Permit and may be stopped at a check station.
Bank & bivvy camping: About a quarter of Washington is federal land — dispersed camping is allowed on most Okanogan-Wenatchee, Gifford Pinchot, Colville, Mt Baker-Snoqualmie and Olympic National Forest ground along these waters. WDFW and DNR lands allow camping in designated areas with a Discover Pass; developed campgrounds sit on nearly every major reservoir.
Tackle: The default trout limit is 5 per day on lowland lakes (many alpine lakes have no limit), the bass limit 5, with extensive selective-gear, catch-and-release and seasonal rules -- the Yakima is C&R selective gear, wild steelhead are release-only statewide, and salmon is set area by area. Anyone 15 or older needs a Washington freshwater fishing licence — the resident annual is about $30, the non-resident annual about $85, with a combination (fresh + salt + shellfish) licence and 1-, 2- and 3-day options. A Columbia River Salmon/Steelhead Endorsement (~$9) is required to fish the Columbia and its tributaries for salmon or steelhead, a Two-Pole Endorsement (~$15) allows two rods on eligible waters, and a free Catch Record Card is required for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon and halibut.
