Estany del Viver — This intimate 3-hectare mountain lake in the Pyrénées-Orientales sits at high altitude and offers pike and trout fishing from the bank only, making it ideal if you're seeking a quieter alternative to lowland carp waters. Night fishing isn't permitted due to its elevation and remote location, so plan daytime sessions around the 579-mile journey from Calais. You'll need a valid French fishing licence and must register with Fédération Pêche Pyrénées-Orientales (FDAAPPMA 66) before fishing.
