Étang d'Auriol is an intimate high-altitude mountain lake in the Pyrénées-Orientales offering bank fishing only for trout, pike and perch in a spectacular setting—though at 576 miles from Calais, it's a serious road trip better suited to a dedicated multi-venue tour rather than a quick crossing. Night fishing isn't permitted due to the lake's elevation and remote location, so you'll be fishing daylight hours in what feels like proper wilderness fishing.
