Formed by damming a river valley in Lozère, Lac de Charpal is a medium-sized public reservoir covering 189 hectares and one of the more significant fisheries in Occitanie. Species include Carp, Catfish, Pike, Perch, Zander, Tench, Bream and Black Bass — with carp fishing the primary attraction for travelling anglers.
Night fishing is not permitted at Lac de Charpal, so plan accordingly. Regarding boats: Electric motors only. Overnight bivouac camping is authorised, ideal for multi-day carp sessions.
At 444 miles from Calais, Lac de Charpal requires a longer journey from the UK, but Occitanie — a region of warm summers and excellent coarse fishing, particularly for carp and catfish — rewards the trip.
