Regio Zuidwest covers the delta region of Zeeland — Haringvliet, Hollands Diep, Volkerak, Grevelingenmeer and Biesbosch. These are some of the Netherlands' most spectacular big waters, holding specimen bream, zander and pike, as well as large carp.
All anglers fishing Dutch public waters require a VISpas (~€40/year) from Sportvisserij Nederland. The annual licence covers most public lakes, rivers and canals across the Netherlands. Buy online at sportvisserijnederland.nl before your trip — UK anglers can purchase as a visitor without a Dutch address.
For night fishing, an additional NachtVIStoestemming (€17.50/year) is required on top of the VISpas. Always check VISplanner.nl for current rules on the specific water before fishing at night — some waters have restrictions or are excluded entirely. Always carry both documents while fishing.
Regio Zuidwest covers Zeeland and parts of Noord-Brabant — the Grevelingenmeer, Veerse Meer and the Brabantse Biesbosch. The Grevelingenmeer (4,400ha) is a former sea inlet now used as a saltwater/brackish fishery — unique in the Netherlands, holding large Sea Bass and Flounder alongside freshwater species. The Brabantse Biesbosch offers extensive carp fishing in a nature reserve setting. Most venues here are within 4 hours of the Channel Tunnel.
