Étang d'Escalès is a small, intimate mountain lake in Ariège (567 miles south of Calais) offering bank fishing only for trout, pike and perch in a stunning high-altitude setting—quite different from typical UK carp venues, but worth considering if you fancy a scenic break from lowland fishing. Night fishing isn't permitted due to the lake's elevation, so expect daytime-only sessions in pristine Pyrenean surroundings. You'll need an Ariège AAPPMA permit from the local federation (FDAAPPMA 09) to fish here.
