Étang du Garbet, Ariège
This high-altitude mountain reservoir in the Pyrenees offers pike and perch fishing rather than carp, making it a scenic diversion rather than a primary carp destination for UK anglers. At 15.5 hectares, it's intimate bank-fishing only with no night fishing allowed, so daytime sessions are essential. Located 567 miles south of Calais in remote Occitanie, it's best combined with lowland French carp venues rather than visited solo—you'll need a valid French fishing licence and AAPPMA 09 day ticket from the local federation.
Night fishing at Étang du Garbet is not permitted. Night carp not authorised on this lake. In Ariège, night carp (no-kill mandatory) is only permitted on: Lac de Montbel (entire lake), Plan d'eau de Mondély, Plan d'eau de Labarre (Foix), l'Hers at Mazères (river), Saint-Ybars. Note: Lac de Filheit had night carp REMOVED from January 2026. Source: peche-ariege.com/connaitre-la-reglementation/ Anglers must leave the bank before dark.
