Formed by damming a river valley in Ariège, Étang de Gnioure is a medium-sized public reservoir covering 83 hectares and one of the more significant fisheries in Occitanie. Species present include Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Perch, Pike and Black Bass.
Night fishing is not permitted at Étang de Gnioure, so plan accordingly. Regarding boats: Bank fishing only. Overnight bivouac camping is authorised, ideal for multi-day carp sessions.
At 571 miles from Calais, Étang de Gnioure requires a longer journey from the UK, but Occitanie — a region of warm summers and excellent coarse fishing, particularly for carp and catfish — rewards the trip.
