Étang de Lers is a pristine 30-hectare mountain lake in the Pyrenees offering pike and perch fishing in stunning high-altitude scenery — a refreshing change from lowland French lakes. Day fishing only, no boats allowed, and the trout-dominated stock means it's better suited to pike hunters than carp anglers. At 560 miles from Calais in deepest Ariège, it's a serious road trip, but worth it if predator fishing appeals; you'll need a valid French fishing licence and must contact AAPPMA de l'Ariège before your visit to confirm access and current regulations.
Night fishing at Étang de Lers is not permitted. Night carp not authorised on this lake. In Ariège, night carp (no-kill mandatory) is only permitted on: Lac de Montbel (entire lake), Plan d'eau de Mondély, Plan d'eau de Labarre (Foix), l'Hers at Mazères (river), Saint-Ybars.
