PACA is home to Lac de Saint-Cassien — arguably the most famous carp lake in France — along with several other significant public water bodies including Lac de Sainte-Croix and Lac de Serre-Ponçon. Cassien (350ha, Var) holds carp to 35kg on public bank and boat access under the standard Var departmental card. Night fishing has been permanently banned on Cassien since 2012, and bivvy camping is also forbidden, making it a day-session venue despite its fame. The region's distance from Calais — 500+ miles — means it suits dedicated trips rather than short crossings, but the quality of fishing and year-round warm climate rewards the journey.
