Fishing in Comunitat Valenciana

The Comunitat Valenciana's freshwater fishing centres on the Júcar and Turia river systems and their associated reservoir chains. The Embalse de Tous and Alarcón (shared with Castilla-La Mancha) hold strong carp, barbel and black bass populations. The Albufera de Valencia — Spain's largest coastal lagoon — holds eel, carp and mullet but fishing access is tightly regulated within the natural park.

Valencia is part of the interautonomous licence scheme. Permits for reservoir fishing are issued by the Conselleria de Medi Ambient i Canvi Climàtic. The Júcar and Cabriel rivers in the interior hold barbel and black bass. The Mediterranean coast provides sea fishing opportunities for bass, sea bream (dorada) and mullet without a licence from public fishing points.

Species present across Comunitat Valenciana's public waters include carp, barbel, black bass, eel, mullet, pike, zander. The exact mix varies by water type and area.

Fishing Licence & Permits in Comunitat Valenciana

Comunitat Valenciana is part of the 10-region interautonomous fishing licence scheme — a single Licencia de Pesca Interautonómica (~€25/year) covers fishing across all participating communities: Andalucía, Aragón, Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Comunitat Valenciana and Murcia.

The interautonomous licence is available online via the MITECO portal (miteco.gob.es). You will need a valid passport number or NIE number to complete the application. The licence is delivered by email and is valid from 1 January to 31 December each year. Non-EU residents are welcome to apply.

In addition to the interautonomous licence, some designated trout rivers and protected reservoirs in Comunitat Valenciana require a sector-specific permit — check venue pages on PiscaMaps for links to local permit offices. Always carry both the interautonomous licence and any sector permit when fishing.
