Fishing in Murcia

Murcia's fishing is concentrated on the Segura river and its tributaries, which flow across the arid Levante landscape to the Mediterranean. The Segura holds barbel, black bass and carp along most of its navigable length. The Embalse de la Pedrera and Embalse de Valdeinfierno are the main still-water venues. The Mar Menor lagoon near Cartagena provides productive sea fishing.

Murcia is part of the interautonomous licence scheme. Fishing on the Segura requires care over regulated sections — no-take zones exist around drinking water intakes. Permits for designated trout sectors are issued by the Consejería de Agua, Agricultura, Ganadería, Pesca y Medio Ambiente. The climate allows fishing year-round, making Murcia attractive for winter visits.

Species present across Murcia's public waters include barbel, black bass, carp, eel, sea bass, mullet. The exact mix varies by water type and area.

Fishing Licence & Permits in Murcia

Murcia is part of the 10-region interautonomous fishing licence scheme — a single Licencia de Pesca Interautonómica (~€25/year) covers fishing across all participating communities: Andalucía, Aragón, Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Comunitat Valenciana and Murcia.

The interautonomous licence is available online via the MITECO portal (miteco.gob.es). You will need a valid passport number or NIE number to complete the application. The licence is delivered by email and is valid from 1 January to 31 December each year. Non-EU residents are welcome to apply.

In addition to the interautonomous licence, some designated trout rivers and protected reservoirs in Murcia require a sector-specific permit — check venue pages on PiscaMaps for links to local permit offices. Always carry both the interautonomous licence and any sector permit when fishing.
