Banská Bystrica Region is central Slovakia — the Hron, Ipeľ and Slaná basins and the Poľana and Muránska planina uplands. VN Teplý Vrch near Rimavská Sobota is the stand-out, a shallow, warm reservoir regarded as one of the best carp waters in the country; VN Ružiná near Lučenec is the other main still water.
Teplý Vrch, Ružiná and the lower Hron and Ipeľ are SRZ carp waters under the 381/2018 hours — 24-hour fishing from June to October, a 15 March–31 May carp close on the reservoirs. The upper Hron and the mountain tributaries are trout and grayling water. A rybársky lístok plus the SRZ permit for the revír are required.
Every angler needs a Slovak state fishing licence (rybársky lístok), issued by any municipal office for roughly €3 a week, €5 a month or €10 a year.
On top of that you need a permit (povolenie) for the specific water from the Slovak Fishing Association (SRZ), whose local organisations manage the revíry. Non-members and visitors buy a guest permit (hosťovacie povolenie) by the day, week or season.
On carp waters the national decree 381/2018 sets the daily fishing hours: 24 hours a day from 1 June to 31 October, 04:00–24:00 in May, 06:00–21:00 from November to April. Standing carp water is closed to carp fishing from 15 March to 31 May; flowing carp water has no annual close. Designated trout and grayling stretches are more restricted.
