Nitra Region sits on the warm Danubian Lowland of southern Slovakia — the Nitra, Žitava and Hron rivers, the lower Váh, and a large number of gravel-pit lakes (štrkoviská) around Nové Zámky, Komárno and Palárikovo that fish well for carp and tench.
The rivers and pits here are SRZ carp waters and fall squarely under the 381/2018 hours: 24-hour fishing from 1 June to 31 October, 06:00–21:00 in winter, a 15 March–31 May carp close on the standing pits. A Slovak state licence (rybársky lístok) plus the SRZ permit for the revír are needed; guest permits are sold by the day and week.
Every angler needs a Slovak state fishing licence (rybársky lístok), issued by any municipal office for roughly €3 a week, €5 a month or €10 a year.
On top of that you need a permit (povolenie) for the specific water from the Slovak Fishing Association (SRZ), whose local organisations manage the revíry. Non-members and visitors buy a guest permit (hosťovacie povolenie) by the day, week or season.
On carp waters the national decree 381/2018 sets the daily fishing hours: 24 hours a day from 1 June to 31 October, 04:00–24:00 in May, 06:00–21:00 from November to April. Standing carp water is closed to carp fishing from 15 March to 31 May; flowing carp water has no annual close. Designated trout and grayling stretches are more restricted.
