Fishing in Košice

Košice Region covers the Zemplín and Abov lowlands of eastern Slovakia and is defined for anglers by Zemplínska šírava (about 3,300 ha), one of the largest still waters in the country and a well-known carp, zander and asp fishery, and by Ružín reservoir on the Hornád in the hills to the west. The Bodrog, Hornád and the short Slovak stretch of the Tisa add river fishing.

Zemplínska šírava and the lowland rivers are SRZ carp waters under the 381/2018 hours (24-hour fishing June–October). Part of Šírava sits under a nature-protection regime that restricts camping and access, so check the revír's special provisions. Ružín and the upper Hornád include trout and grayling stretches. A rybársky lístok plus the SRZ permit are required; guest permits are available.

Fishing Permits in Košice

Every angler needs a Slovak state fishing licence (rybársky lístok), issued by any municipal office for roughly €3 a week, €5 a month or €10 a year.

On top of that you need a permit (povolenie) for the specific water from the Slovak Fishing Association (SRZ), whose local organisations manage the revíry. Non-members and visitors buy a guest permit (hosťovacie povolenie) by the day, week or season.

On carp waters the national decree 381/2018 sets the daily fishing hours: 24 hours a day from 1 June to 31 October, 04:00–24:00 in May, 06:00–21:00 from November to April. Standing carp water is closed to carp fishing from 15 March to 31 May; flowing carp water has no annual close. Designated trout and grayling stretches are more restricted.

Always confirm boat and camping rules for the specific water — and check for any nature-reserve overlay (for example VN Sĺňava). PiscaMaps shows what is confirmed for each venue.
