Osijek-Baranja is Croatia's largest county by number of public fishing venues and the heartland of Croatian coarse fishing. The Drava river — one of Central Europe's most productive coarse fisheries — runs through the county before joining the Danube near Osijek, forming the Kopački Rit nature park. Kopački Rit is a UNESCO-candidate floodplain wetland of international importance, holding some of the largest catfish, carp, pike and perch populations in the Danube basin. Regulated fishing zones within the park offer exceptional specimen fishing.
The Danube itself forms the eastern boundary with Serbia, accessible from the Baranja peninsula with a Croatian fishing permit. Osijek-Baranja also has an extensive network of oxbow lakes (mrtvice), drainage canals and the Vuka river — all offering accessible coarse fishing. The county's fishing is managed by ŠRD associations in each municipality. Osijek is approximately 15 hours by road from the Channel Tunnel via Vienna.
