Fishing in Vukovar-Srijem, Croatia

Vukovar-Srijem occupies the far east of Croatia where the Danube and Sava rivers converge on the Pannonian plain. The Danube — one of Europe's great rivers — forms the border with Serbia along the full eastern length of the county, offering catfish, carp, sterlet, beluga (historically), zander, asp and pike on public bank sections. The county's extensive oxbow lake system along the Danube holds particularly large carp and catfish, with several oxbows managed for guided fishing.

The Sava marks the southern border with Bosnia, accessible at numerous points. The Bosut river drains the flat Slavonian plain into the Sava near Županja, providing barbel, chub and bream fishing in a quieter setting. Vukovar-Srijem is predominantly lowland arable country — the flat terrain makes all waters extremely accessible by vehicle. Osijek airport serves the region and is within 30 minutes of most county waters.

Key species in Vukovar-Srijem include catfish, carp, zander, asp, sterlet, pike, barbel, bream.
