Virovitica-Podravina occupies the central Podravina — the Drava river corridor — between Koprivnica and Osijek-Baranja. The Drava here transitions from a fast-flowing upland river to a slower, more productive lowland fishery, with a rich mix of catfish, carp, asp, pike, zander and bream on public bank sections. The county's network of gravel-extraction lakes, particularly around Virovitica, holds clear-water pike and perch alongside carp.
The Sava floodplain to the south holds seasonal oxbow lakes that fill after high water, creating productive temporary fishing in wetland habitats. The Ilova river drains the Bilogora uplands southward to the Lonja, offering smaller-river fishing for chub and barbel. Virovitica has good road links to Zagreb (1.5 hours) and Osijek (1 hour). Permits are available from ŠRD Virovitica.
Key species in Virovitica-Podravina include catfish, carp, asp, pike, zander, bream, perch, chub.
