Fishing in Botoșani

Botoșani county occupies the far north-east of Romania on the Moldovan border. Its dominant water by far is the Costești–Stânca reservoir, a vast border lake on the Prut shared with the Republic of Moldova — one of the country's biggest stillwaters, holding carp, pike-perch, wels catfish, bream and pike. Away from the Prut the county is a landscape of shallow plain lakes and fishponds on the Sitna and Bașeu.

Costești–Stânca and the Prut are border waters: fishing is daylight only, under the Romania–Moldova bilateral agreement, and needs a Border Police endorsement in addition to the free ANPA permit. The reservoir is administered by AJVPS Botoșani, which also manages the county's smaller plain lakes and requires its own permit.

Fishing Permits in Botoșani

Every angler needs the free ANPA recreational permit, available online at permise.anpa.ro. It covers the Danube, its arms, the Black Sea and non-contracted public waters.

Most inland lakes and rivers in Botoșani are contracted to the county fishing association (AJVPS Botoșani), which requires its own permit — sold by the day or the year and available from the association's offices and partner shops.

Mountain trout sectors in Botoșani are managed by RNP-Romsilva: fishing is daylight only, from sunrise to sunset, with the Romsilva fishing tariff instead of the AJVPS permit. Border waters such as the Prut also need a Border Police endorsement.

Always confirm current night-fishing, boat and camping rules for the specific water — PiscaMaps shows what is confirmed for each venue.
