Olt county is Oltenia plain country, taking its name from the Olt river which forms much of its western boundary before joining the Danube. The fishing is spread across small accumulation lakes, floodplain ponds and the Călmățui, Vedea and Dârjov rivers, holding carp, bream, pike, pike-perch and wels catfish.

Most inland lakes and rivers in Olt are contracted to the county fishing association (AJVPS Olt), which requires its own permit — sold by the day or the year and available from the association's offices and partner shops.
Mountain trout sectors in Olt are managed by RNP-Romsilva: fishing is daylight only, from sunrise to sunset, with the Romsilva fishing tariff instead of the AJVPS permit. Border waters such as the Prut also need a Border Police endorsement.
