Maramureș in the far north is a classic mountain-fishing county — the Vișeu, Iza, Ruscova, Tisa and their tributaries drain the Rodna and Maramureș mountains and hold wild brown trout and grayling in fast, clean water. The Firiza reservoir above Baia Mare and a scatter of glacial tarns add stillwater options.
Most Maramureș rivers are salmonid waters administered by RNP-Romsilva — fishing is daylight only, artificial lures on the fly and spinning, and huchen and grayling must be released. Lower reaches and lowland waters are contracted to the county association. You need the free ANPA permit plus the Romsilva tariff or AJVPS permit.
