Mureș county is central Transylvania — the Mureș river and its Târnava tributaries winding through the Câmpia Transilvaniei, a plateau pocked with fishponds and small accumulation lakes. Zau de Câmpie and the Glodeni fish farm are typical carp and pike waters; the Niraj and Târnava Mică hold pike-perch, chub and bream.
Mureș's contracted waters are administered by AJVPS Mureș. Night fishing is permitted only on named waters — the Mureș downstream of the CFR bridge, the Târnava Mică, the Târnava Mare and the Bezid reservoir — and the fishing stand must be lit at night; elsewhere fishing is daylight only.
