Sălaj county lies in the hills of north-western Transylvania between the Apuseni and the Someș plain. Its main water is the Vârșolț reservoir on the Crasna, a bank-fishing carp and pike-perch venue. The Someș skirts the north of the county and, with its tributaries, still holds a small population of huchen alongside barbel, chub and grayling.
AJVPS Sălaj administers the county's waters. On the accumulation lakes fishing is permitted day and night (the stand must be lit), boats are banned, and camping is allowed with tents and caravans only for a session of at most 10 consecutive days. Salmonid sectors on the upper streams are RNP-Romsilva day-only water. You need the free ANPA permit plus the association permit.
