Suceava county is Bukovina — the north-eastern Carpathians and their forested foothills. This is one of Romania's finest trout and grayling regions: the Bistrița Aurie, Moldova, Moldovița, Suceava and Dorna rivers are fast, clean and cold, holding wild brown trout, grayling and, in a few reaches, huchen. On the plain the Rogojești and Bucecea reservoirs on the Siret hold carp and pike.
The mountain rivers are RNP-Romsilva salmonid water — daylight fishing only, artificial lures on the fly and spinning, and huchen and grayling must be released year-round. The Siret reservoirs and lowland waters are contracted to AJVPS Suceava, whose permit is required with the free ANPA recreational permit.
Every angler needs the free ANPA recreational permit, available online at permise.anpa.ro. It covers the Danube, its arms, the Black Sea and non-contracted public waters.
Most inland lakes and rivers in Suceava are contracted to the county fishing association (AJVPS Suceava), which requires its own permit — sold by the day or the year and available from the association's offices and partner shops.
Mountain trout sectors in Suceava are managed by RNP-Romsilva: fishing is daylight only, from sunrise to sunset, with the Romsilva fishing tariff instead of the AJVPS permit. Border waters such as the Prut also need a Border Police endorsement.
