Fishing in Marche, Italy

Marche is the Adriatic-facing region between Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo, divided by a series of Apennine rivers flowing east to the Adriatic: the Foglia, Metauro, Esino, Chienti and Tronto. These rivers hold brown trout and grayling in their Apennine sections and barbel, chub and carp as they approach the coast. The Furlo Gorge on the Metauro — a dramatic limestone canyon — is one of the region's most scenic fishing settings, with designated trout stretches in its clear water.

The Adriatic coast provides sea fishing from accessible beaches and harbour walls for sea bass, bream, mullet and squid. The Tavola reservoir and Borgiano lake near Macerata add stillwater coarse options. Ancona airport serves the region with some UK connections; the A14 motorway provides direct access from Bologna (2 hours). Permits are available from local FIPSAS sections.

Key species in Marche include brown trout, grayling, barbel, chub, carp, pike, tench, sea bass.

Fishing Licence & Permits

All anglers require a valid Licenza di pesca tipo A issued by the relevant Italian regional authority (approximately €13). Most regions also require a tesserino regionale (regional fishing card). Day and weekly permits are available at local tackle shops and comune offices. No examination required for visitors.

Fishing in Italy is managed at regional level. The national licence (Licenza di pesca tipo A) is low-cost and widely available. Night fishing is permitted at many venues. Motorised boats are restricted on many alpine lakes.
